CJP Protest in Delhi: Police Use Lathi Charge as CJP Delegation Meets JP Nadda Amid Parliament March

CJP Protest in Delhi: Police Use Lathi Charge as CJP Delegation Meets JP Nadda Amid Parliament March

New Delhi | July 20, 2026

Tension gripped the national capital on Monday after members and supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) attempted to march towards Parliament as part of their "Chalo Sansad" protest. The demonstration witnessed clashes between protesters and security personnel, with Delhi Police using batons (lathi charge) and tear gas shells to disperse crowds near Jantar Mantar, Constitution Club, and other high-security zones.

The protest was organized to demand accountability over alleged irregularities in national entrance examinations and to seek the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Protesters also raised concerns over student welfare and recent incidents linked to examination controversies.

Lathi Charge Near Jantar Mantar

As thousands of protesters attempted to move toward Parliament during the Monsoon Session, Delhi Police erected multiple barricades across central Delhi. When demonstrators tried to breach security cordons, police responded with baton charges and tear gas to prevent them from entering restricted areas.

Several protesters alleged that excessive force was used during the operation, while Delhi Police maintained that security measures were necessary to control the crowd and protect sensitive government buildings. Temporary restrictions were also imposed around Parliament, and several Delhi Metro stations were briefly closed before services resumed.

CJP Leaders Meet JP Nadda

In a significant political development, a delegation of CJP leaders, including spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, met Union Minister JP Nadda at his residence while protests continued outside.

During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum outlining its demands, including action on alleged examination irregularities and concerns raised by students. According to CJP representatives, JP Nadda assured them that their demands would be discussed at the appropriate level, although no formal commitments or immediate decisions were announced.

Hunger Strike Ends Before Meeting

Earlier in the day, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke ended his hunger strike before joining the Parliament march. Party leaders said the decision was taken after the Centre initiated dialogue by inviting CJP representatives for discussions with JP Nadda.

Political Reactions

The police action triggered reactions from several opposition leaders, who criticized the use of force against protesters and called for peaceful dialogue. Meanwhile, the government engaged with CJP representatives through the meeting with JP Nadda, indicating a possible willingness to continue discussions despite the ongoing demonstrations.

Current Situation

Security remains tight across central Delhi, particularly around Parliament and Jantar Mantar. While the meeting between CJP leaders and JP Nadda marked the first formal dialogue between the two sides, the protest movement has stated that demonstrations will continue until concrete action is taken on its demands.
