Iran’s Supreme Leader Reportedly Dead in Israel-Iran War

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, has died at the age of 86, Iranian state media confirmed early Sunday. Khamenei had been the most powerful leader in Iran since 1989.

Iran’s state television announced that Khamenei died “while performing his assigned duties” early Sunday following a major round of military attacks on Iran. Iranian officials blamed the United States and Israel for his death.
Before Iran’s announcement, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Khamenei had been killed in a joint U.S.–Israeli airstrike aimed at top Iranian leaders.
Family Members Also Reportedly Killed
