 Anthropic CEO :  AI May Replace Software Engineers Within 6–12 Months

What Did the CEO Say?

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Amodei explained that companies are entering a phase where engineers increasingly rely on AI to generate code rather than writing it themselves. He suggested the industry may be “six to 12 months away” from models doing nearly everything software engineers do end-to-end. 

In fact, some engineers already let AI write code while they focus on reviewing and editing the output. 

Why Is This Happening?

AI tools have advanced quickly, and major tech companies are already using AI to handle parts of their codebases. Experts believe this level of automation will continue to grow. 

Amodei noted that AI is shifting from being just a productivity tool to one that can perform the work itself, potentially shrinking the need for large programming teams.
